6 immersive images of a motorcycle road trip through the Americas

Live vicariously through Spanish rider Matias Corea's 168-day journey from Brooklyn, New York all the way to Ushuaia, Argentina with these incredible photographs from his new book, Two Wheels South...

3 mins
Our trip took eight months planning, six months on the road, and 20,000 miles. The best plan was to leave Brooklyn in early October - when it was still warm in Brooklyn - and arrive in Ushuaia, Argentina, by the first week of April, the beginning of autumn.

Day 3: 600 miles in

Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, USA (Matias Corea)

We have left the grey urban sprawl behind as we cross through the Appalachian Mountains. The landscape explodes with the colours of fall.

Surrounded by vibrant nature, we wind our way through this postcard called the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Day 19: 3,137 miles in

Wadley, San Luis Potosi, Mexico (Matias Corea)

100 degree days in torrid lands, torrential rains in lush, jungle-like sierras, beautiful warm beaches and cold misty fog - it's as if Mexico is many countries in one.

Day 52: 5,627 miles in

After hours riding in the humid jungle heat, we get to this road. This is the picture I had in my head when dreaming of riding in Central America. Looking ahead, I can only see a small road disappearing between trees.

Day 66: 6,978 miles in

Whenever an opportunity to go to an island comes up, we take it. When we do, we never leave our bikes behind.

Ferries are chaotic at best. Once you park the bike, you are asked to leave so a couple of guys can secure them, so they won't fall from the movement of the boat.

They don't know what they're doing but they never deal with such heavy bikes. If the sea gets real rough, putting the bike on a kickstand is a bad idea. I'll re-do it if necessary.

Day 70: 7,344 miles in

Riding in Costa Rica (Matias Corea)

Riding in Costa Rica (Matias Corea)

Our entire stint in Costa Rica is a mere 392 miles over five days. Paved roads are everywhere. The beaches are dreamy and the tropical forest is incredibly luscious, but our daily experiences are heavily influenced by the USA. We're just itching to be in South America.

Day 86: 8,487 miles in

Chicamocha Canyon, Colombia (Matias Corea)

Chicamocha Canyon, Colombia (Matias Corea)

We have made it all the way from Brooklyn to South America, and Colombia marks the beginning of a new chapter. We finally found what we've been looking for: the sensation of being isolated on some small, lonely, backcountry dirt road, winding deep into the wild, purposefully lost, and surrounded by nature.
