Would Rupert Grint in a wetsuit make you want to visit Bridlington?

5 mins

Me neither. And I think I'd be a little alarmed to find Stephen Fry sipping a cup of tea in my bedroom at 4.15 in the morning too. But seemingly the powers-that-be at VisitEngland think that these scenes – as well as Julie Walters talking into a lobster phone – will convince Brits to holiday at home this year.

Scheungy's not convinced. She took to the forum to say the ad made her want to run away. Steve48 stepped in singing the praises of Blighty. Bilbo Baggins expressed alarm that the stunning HD footage of the British countryside could see her neck of the woods overrun with grockles (Google to see what it means). I've embedded a clip of the ad below. Check it out and join in on the debate here.

Inspired by the eerie cobwebs blanketing western New South Wales after the floods there, Sangreya listed the other natural phenomenon she'd like to see before spiders take over the whole planet. The migration of the Monarch butterflies in Mexico for one. Diving with jellyfish in Palau, another. Niall reckons you can't beat diving into a really big seabird colony. Mattyboy876 recommends Croydon at closing time. What do think?

EilishDillon is thinking of visiting Cuba in late May. Daisy pointed her towards our essential Cuba guide. But if you have any advice, make sure your pop over and post it here.

Experiences is awash with 350-word tales of adventure, all part of our mini-travel writing competition. Set aside an afternoon and be transported to every corner of the globe. The judges are gathering soon to pick a winner so make sure you go and rate your favourites.

Hidden among the travel writing competition entries you'll find Peterj2002's account of a recent cruise along the Irrawaddy River in Burma. I did the same trip back in the mid-80s and spent a good deal of my allotted ten-day visa stuck on a sandbar. It sounds like things haven't changed much.

Make sure your check out Peterj2002's pictures from Burma over at our photo galleries too. More Buddhas than you can poke a stick at and each photo burnished with an ethereal glow. Clairethomas1484 raises the bar too, with a selection of fantastic images from West Africa. I challenge you to view her gallery and not want to head to Mali and Ghana.

Shoreham-Boy has been on a grand Caribbean adventure and has the pictures to prove it. Nickychill came across beach-combing sheep on Harris. And Bilbo Baggins has posted a set of stunning images from her recent visit to San Diego. You can check them all out here.

Just back from and Goccia has just returned from Zanzibar. She recommends going to Nungwi and taking things "pole, pole". Julia69 is back from New York and raving about the new High Line and the different perspective it gives you on the Meatpacker District. She also warns about a CD scam opposite Macys. Read her advice and save yourself $15. Ocelus went to Granada and is in raptures about the Alhambra. And Keithruffles stepped back in time in the Soviet wonderland that is Tiraspol. And all for under £250!

You can't complain about that.
