The food. Naples is the birthplace of the pizza and margaritas are the local speciality. Especially with the super-tasty buffalo milk mozzarella cheese.

The much less than expected hassles from touts, yes there were a few but very low key and many places they just didn't seem to exist.

Finally drying the last of my clothing, equipment and car interior two days afterward... honestly, I was wetter than an otter's pocket

The Ridgeway 40 - Overton to Streatley

Ah, I'm torn between the glorious views (walking along the ridge like it's the top of the world, everything newly green, wild flowers everywhere and the patchwork of lush green and vibrant yellow fields on either side) and the discovery that it's liberating not to finish (only got to 28 miles)

Armagnac {aka Gascony or Departement du Gers)

Bugloss: wild flowers burgeoned in the warm May drizzle, and occasional sunshine - green meadows glowing gold with buttercups, scarlet poppies vivid against the white of campions and stitchwort. But the stars of the show were the buglosses, intense bright blue stars glittering in the verges.

The Casa Vela Guesthouse in a quiet residential area of Cascais. A lovely modern interior in an old villa, with a beautiful terraced garden. Within 15 mins walking distance of the old town and its narrow cobbled streets, a lovely park and museums.

Agia Sofia, backlit by sunshine this time instead of the dismal grey skies of my first visit.

Finding El Guincho beach. Beautiful sands and scenes. Full of surfers, kite surfers and paddle boarders yet completely void of tacky seaside gimmicks. Moana Surf school was a brilliant find and I love learning to surf there.

Roadtrip from Javea / Xabia to San Sebastian

    by DrG :
    Added on 3rd May 2012

For a couple of days we looped into the mountains via torturous roads and perched ourselves amongst the endless agricultural terraces tucking into pata negra and crusty bread. Cherries were in blossom and blizzards of petals dazzled the eyes while the nose was assailed by citrus.
