From the Editor: The best from myWanderlust this week

Here comes the rain. Again.

6 mins

How about this weather, huh? It's shaping up as the wettest drought on record. Still, it has been helping with my education on all things Blighty. I know what an April shower is now. Back in Oz I was always led to believe it was some sort of annual bathing ritual.

Over on the forum, the heavy precipitations prompted Alan Taylor to ask myWanderlusters what they have done in the rain. If I'm to be honest, I was a little worried where this post may lead. But I guess that says more about me than I should let on because myWanderlusters turned the post into a joyful celebration of the cathartic and almost spiritual effect of rain. Put on your wellies and join in here.

Liz Cleere stirred things up by noting that it has been 18 years since the first democratic elections were held in South Africa. She just wanted to put the Specials on, but stirred up a heated and passionate debate on the state of South Africa. After kicking it all off, Sergeant Pluck tried to bring a semblance of order by suggesting Liz play Too Much Too Young instead.

The good sergeant popped up elsewhere on the forum with an amusing tale of catching out people telling travel porkies and wants to know the biggest travel-related whopper you've been told. I was assured that the Tropical Hotel in Addis Ababa was cheap and clean and it turned out to be brothel. Maybe they were talking about the girls?

As usual, the forum is littered with requests for help. Ehalford wants recommendations for the Lot-et-Garonne area. CJR needs guidance on Africa in August. And sam j young wants the lowdown on Wanderlust photography workshops.

Speaking of Wanderlust, Dan, the magazine editor, wants to know what photo software you use. And I've put out the call for bloggers to feature of our new 'Blog of the Week' feature.

Just back from is fast becoming my favourite part of the myWanderlust experience. Dr G has returned from Helsinki, Jyvaskyla and beyond with tales of ice fishing and red throated divers. He also managed to go through France to Spain and back where he encountered Sardines with blue eyes. Sangreya is fast becoming the Isle of Man's answer to Cornwall's own LaurenAmelia with news of Manx charms and wonders. Nick78 provides a comprehensive report about what's good about Tuscany (and it's not just the Chianti). And Sarah Manuel reports on an 8km walk along the south coast of Cornwall.

One upside of the wet weather is that restless myWanderlusters have been confined indoors long enough to file experiences from their recent journeys. David Ross has composed a love letter to Sweden. And Vikings. Nick78 goes to the rescue of 81 year-old Bert in Sam Gimignano who slips and breaks his hip. And Liz Cleere catches a ferry. Not across the Mersey. But to Majuli in Assam.

While you're in experiences make sure you read VikkiRed's piece about being spoiled rotten in Puglia, Ocelus's Andalucian journey and hmoat01's wonderful tale of the cats of Istanbul. Bilbo Baggins' story of trying to get a crime report in Namibia is a good read too, but not recommended for those of you who are quick to anger.

Finally, photos. Sam j young is not drowning, just waving in Malawi. Sergeant Pluck hangs out with KKK smurfs in Almeria. And satkinson has a lovely shot of a plane just after it landed on the beach in Barra in the Outer Hebrides.

Border control queues not shown.
