SaariselkÄ began life as a gold prospector’s town high in the Arctic Circle. However, as the rush faded, the town gradually developed into a winter resort surrounded by gentle rounded fells ideal for winter sports. The town lies in a valley with the fells KaunispÄÄ and IisakkipÄÄ, both equipped with ski lifts.
