Maximise your 12-night holiday with an overnight flight to arrive in Windhoek at lunchtime. After a good night’s sleep, it’s time to explore Namibia’s colourful capital. Chill out with the locals in Zoo Park or pick up some African curios at the Old Breweries Craft Market. Sample some of the local cuisine before visiting Parliament Gardens and the National Museum of Namibia with its display of rock art. On day three you’ll set off in your self-drive 4x4 towards the dunes of Sossusvlei which is one of the driest ecosystems on the planet. After a five-hour drive, arrive at Desert Homestead Outpost which will be your home for the next two nights. Enjoy a sundowner and watch the ever-changing light on the sand dunes which can reach more than 300 metres in height. Look out for passing springbok and ostrich. Today, you’ll explore the undulating landscape of Sossusvlei’s salt pan with a private guide. Have a go at climbing one of the world’s biggest sand dunes known as ‘Big Daddy’ which rises to a height of 350 metres. From the top you can enjoy the stunning sight of the Namib Desert. Explore Deadvlei - a white clay pan known as the ‘dead marsh’ famous for its black petrified trees. You’ll be getting behind the wheel of your 4x4 again on day five to drive six hours€ross vast desert towards the seaside town of Swakopmund which is renowned for its German architecture. The following day you board a catamaran to sail around Walvis Bay. This natural deep-water harbour attracts marine life. Look out for dolphin, pelican, turtle and humpback whale. You could then choose to ride the sand dunes onboard a quad bike, before sampling the local seafood. On day seven you’ll leave the coastal city behind and drive up into the mountains to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Erongo Wilderness Lodge for the next two nights. Relax by the pool and enjoy a sundowner walk with your expert guide. Don’t forget your camera to capture the sun setting over the breath-taking Erongo and Brandberg mountains. Keep an eye open for the spectacular bird life from Black (Verreaux) Eagle to Whitebellied Sunbird. Today, you’ll see some of the world’s best examples of bushmen’s rock art at the National Monument site while exploring Paula’s Cave. A slow drive searching for nocturnal animals, with the help of a spotlight will bring you back to the lodge in time for dinner under the stars. On day nine, drive from the Erongo Mountains to the sandstone plateau which makes up the Waterberg Wilderness. Look out for the Hoba Meteorite which lies on a farm at Hoba West and is the largest known single meteorite lying on Earth. On arrival, enjoy afternoon tea before enjoying a rhino safari drive. You may also spot sable antelope, giraffe, oryx, blue wildebeest or kudu. Relax around the camp fire before bed. Today, you’ll set off in your 4x4 for Okonjima Nature Reserve which is home to the AFRICAT Foundation. On arrival at the family-run Okonjima lodge you’ll learn about the project which focuses on conservation work including their Cheetah Project. One of the highlights of your stay will be the nocturnal game drive. When the sun has set and the temperature drops the African bush comes to life. Witness this firsthand and you could see the elusive leopard or the bat-eared fox. On day 11 you’re free to enjoy a bushmen’s trail around this incredible reserve. If you’re up early join a guide to track cheetah on foot. Choose to follow a trail which takes you through Terminalia forests or along dry river beds to spectacular viewing points. Don’t forget to visit the cheetah rehabilitation centre and see the amazing conservation work being done. Toast your spectacular African road trip with a sundowner around the camp fire. On day 12, set off bright and early for Windhoek, not forgetting to pick up your African souvenirs on the way to the airport for your international flight home.
