Join Wanderlust as we take a deep dive into diverse Colombia. We will be talking to award-winning travel writer and photographer Shafik Meghji about his recent visit, and sharing videos and photos to give you a taste of this exciting country, while our experts will be on hand to answer your questions.
This evening will take you from the colonial capital of Bogotá to the cowboy culture of the epic Llanos Orientales, taking in the thick jungle, soaring peaks, ancient history and Caribbean coast in between. Whether you have been before or it’s on your travel wish list, Colombia won’t fail to surprise you.
This very special virtual event will be introduced by our own Lyn Hughes, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Wanderlust. Shafik Meghji will then share his experiences and incredible photos of Llanos Orientales.
The evening of inspiration will end with an opportunity for you to ask Shafik your questions about Colombia. As well as Shafik, the Executive Director of Colombia’s Tourist Board in the UK (ProColombia) Jose Puyana will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about Colombia.
Shafik Meghji: Shafik is an award-winning travel writer and photographer who has co-authored more than 40 guidebooks spanning five continents. His most recent adventure was to Colombia’s Llanos Orientales where he soaked up the country’s cowboy culture.
Jose Puyana: Jose Puyana is the Executive Director of Colombia’s Tourist Board in the UK (ProColombia). He was born and raised in Bucaramanga, a beautiful mountainous city located in northeastern Colombia. He has held several managerial positions in the Colombian government as well as in the United Nations. He joined ProColombia in August 2019.
Jose was bitten by the travel bug at a very young age. He has travelled all around Colombia, from the Amazon Rainforest to the magnificent beaches of La Guajira, all the way through the breathtaking landscapes of the Coffee Triangle and into the savanna of the Llanos. For Jose, nothing beats a meal of cazuela de mariscos (seafood casserole) with arroz con coco (coconut rice), while enjoying Santa Marta’s sunset.
Lyn Hughes: Co-founder and editor-in-chief of leading travel magazine Wanderlust, Lyn is an award-winning writer and named as one of the ‘50 Most Influential People in Travel’ by The Times. Lyn strongly believes in tourism as a force for good, benefiting local communities, wildlife and the natural world. Lyn first travelled through Colombia in 1993 and was blown away by ancient sites, such as San Agustin, the beauty of Cartagena, and the incredible wildlife, such as the pink river dolphins of the Orinoco.
