A host of energising experiences await in St. Anton am Arlberg, giving new meaning to the benefits of fresh mountain air. Here are six rejuvenating experiences you can try...
This village in Austrian Tirol has only 2,500 residents, so you can expect true Tirolean hospitality and plenty of space should you choose to relax in the mountains of St Anton am Arlberg this summer. During your exploration why not take the time to try these six refreshing experiences:
With more than 300km of footpaths to wander, walkers may often find themselves drinking in those alpine landscapes in tranquil solitude; an opportunity to breathe deep and experience true calm. In fact, exercise in the fresh air at moderate altitudes has been found to boost health and physical well-being, adding to the many reasons to get out there.
Want to recline and recharge surrounded by flowers? Each July, 20,000 edelweiss grow next to Senn Hut, found by the Wonder Walking Trail, and each year wooden energy loungers are placed at their centre for visitors to enjoy and relax. Whilst here, you can learn all about this special flower and more from Senn Hut’s trained herbalist, with a weekly programme of garden tours planned and the chance to learn about their healing properties.
E-bikes are a quick and easy way to get around and an excellent option for those who want to ascend to the higher plateaus (especially for those who might worry about doing it under their own steam!)
There are several sports shops that can help with e-bike rentals or if you time your visit for the E-Bike Fest (June 19-21) you can test the latest models in and around the Tirolean village, and head out into the mountains on small-group guided tours.
After all your mountaineering and valley exploration, if you need to soothe those aching muscles then go to Arlberg Wellcom. Open daily, this wellness centre has sauna baths to dip into, pools to swim, a multi-level wellness zone and pampering spa treatments to get you adventure ready and prepared to take on the peaks once again.
Each September brings with it the annual Mountain Yoga Festival, a great opportunity for enthusiasts to learn new techniques from yoga experts and to centre the mind in a natural alpine setting. With new themes every year, such as ‘power source: earth’, the festival is designed to help travellers slow down, shift their perspective of the world and reconnect with nature.
Getting to St. Anton am Arlberg is stress-free too. Railjet trains, the Venice - Simplon Orient-Express and other direct services stop at the train station, located a stone’s throw from the village centre. If flying, the nearest airports are Innsbruck and Zurich and, once you arrive, the St. Anton Summer Card is a great way to make the most of your time. Available between 20 June — 27 September, the card is offered free of charge from your first night and offers a variety of perks to help you better explore the region and enjoy a feel-good holiday.
