The world according to Nick Ledger

Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
I would have said Ocean but after being in the Karakorams in Hunza, Mountain might just tip it. It's pretty spectacular being down at 4 or 5,000ft and being surrounded by clear views of 27,000ft peaks.

What was your first great travel experience?
Inter-railing in 1991 when I was 18. Most people were visiting the cultural sights of Europe. We managed the South of France, Rimini, Cofu and Crete.

What has been your favourite journey?
I can't say - a toss up between 5 days camping on Socotra, Yemen, Rakaposhi Base Camp in Hunza, Pakistan and travelling through Sierra Leone.

What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
Socotra, Yemen; Hunza Valley, Pakistan; River No 2 Beach, Sierra Leone; Sana'a, Yemen; Tokyo.

Recommend a special place to stay
The Alternative, El Nido, Palawan (Philippines)

Which three items do you always pack?
Passport, camera, Toilet roll

Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
Yemen - a phenomenal, shamefully mis-represented country

Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
A cliche but a democratic Burma or Zimbabwe

Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
Just every now and then a decent hotel to relax and do nothing in.

Window or aisle?
Window, better for sleeping!
