The world according to JayR

Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
A bit of each really. It depends on my mood.

What was your first great travel experience?
South Korea in 1987. There was no English anywhere and travelling the country was a lottery but the South Koreans were amazingly helpful and would go out of their way to stick me on the right bus/boat/train.

What has been your favourite journey?
11 days travelling as voyage crew on the Soren Larsen, a tall ship, in Vanautu. The trip took me from Espiritu Santo to the Banks Islands, along the route that Captain Cook took in the Resolution.

What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
Tobago, little sister of Trinidad in the Caribbean. Uepi Island in the Solomons. The White Desert in Egypt. Chobe National Park, Botswana. Nepal, Everest trek.

Recommend a special place to stay
Tongabezi Lodge, near Livingstone, Zambia

Which three items do you always pack?
An open mind. Camera. Diary.

Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
China

Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
Mongolia

Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
Wine, lots of it, with good company
