Remembering a special Zambian friend at Christmas
She was just three years old in May 2009 and an orphan being looked after by 'aunts'. It was her first day at pre-school and she didn't know what to do. She stood in the playground and watched and chewed her sleeve and when we sat down to lunch all she had in her lunch box was dry bread.

Two and a half years later, I wonder what she's doing now? Have you kept in touch?
Cute! As a primary school teacher and a mother - I see the cuff chewing thing is universal!
Thanks Liz - I support the pre-school she attends and get news of her from the teachers. I hope to see her in the new year.
Thanks Helen - cuff-chewing does seem to be universal, amongst other things ....
What's her name? So glad to hear you're hearing from the teachers. Will you be going out to visit in the future? I'd love to see more photos of the little cutie.
She likes to be called Rose. I met her when I worked with the Bookbus in 2009 and I wanted to scoop her up and bring her home with me.
Special indeed. And a beautiful potrait.
Thanks Pliers. Merry Christmas to you.
Glad you're enjoying the Southern Africa tales Jean. More to come! You may not have read these which are probably more about the region you visited. Route 62 and Garden Route.BB xxPS I hope 'Rose' is doing well
