The Llyn Peninsula

How long were you there for?
A week

What was the single highlight of your trip?
Our time on the Peninsula was pretty blighted by some horrendous weather so would have to say the highlights were climbing Y Garn in Snowdonia the day before we went and gorge scrambling near Betws-Y-Coed on the way home!!

Any lowlights/cautionary tales?
If it is wet there are limited options on the peninsula

Any absolutely MUST see sights/activities?
Criccieth Castle was nice, Hell's Mouth is spectacular and the Coastal Path generally has some amazing views

Any absolutely DON'T see sights/activities?
The towns of the Llyn are pretty nondescript....

If you could give one piece of advice, what would it be?
Pack waterproofs

Any other comments?
It helps to be a confident driver as the roads are very narrow and there is no end of lost tourists, camper vans and substantial agricultural machinery on the lanes....

I can't deny that Llyn in the wind and rain is not at its best, but - while speaking no doubt as you found - you paint an unfairly miserable picture.  If people follow your advice about waterproofs they can enjoy the spectacular coastal scenery, many attractive small towns and villages, country lanes, a couple of good National Trust properties, and the whole poetic heritage of R.S. Thomas.  Great place.

Alan, looking at it I suppose I did make it sound a bit miserable which wasn't my intention.....the coastal scenery is spectacular and the feeling of wilderness is great. Still not overly convinced by the towns and villages, Aberdaron is the best I think and the church trades heavily on R.S. Thomas (whom I like a lot). Hell's Mouth has an end of the world feel to it and was properly wild on a wet, windy afternoon.  Maybe I just had the hump as our coasteering and trip to Bardsey were both cancelled due to non-August like conditions!
