    Solo woman traveller in South West Cambodia

    Hi;
    I plan to go to Cambodia for a week on 17th October and I will be alone. I'd already seen Siem Reap and Angkor Wat two years ago with my husband. Now, I intend to go alone to Phnom Phen, from there take a private transfer to 4 Rivers Floating Lodges in Tatai, then from there return back to Kep or Sihanoukville and stay in a place for another 2-3 nights, return back to Phnom Phen.
    Do you think that Cambodia is a secure place to travel alone (I am not a backpacker; I can pay more in order to have some comfort and security)?
    Do you think that mid of October is a good period for travel?
    Can you suggest me some good resorts / hotels in Sihanoukville or Kep as well as in Phnom Phen.

    I already travelled in remote islands from home and for example stayed in Zanzibar  alone. But I will appreciate your opinions and experiences;
    Thank you very much and I wish to all of you days and weeks with lots of travels!

    Hi Goccia,

    I posted your questions on our Facebook page and Twitter feed and here are a few answers for you. I hope they help!

    Amber Campbell: I went there alone about seven years ago from Ho Chi Min. I took a guided 3 day tour along the mekong delta, then got dropped off in P.Phen, did the killing fields, high school death museum, then took local bus to Siem Riep for Angkor Wat. Flew from Siem Riep back to HCM. Was cheap, safe, but never went out at night, etc.

    Claus Andersen:
    Yes it's a safe destination for female travellers. Because of this you
    already see many female travellers there on their own. And October should be fine, especially the end of October when the wet season ends.

    Anna Torres: I was in Cambodia last year on a cycle tour but many afternoons just wandered around on my own. I had no problems at all in Phenom Phen or any of the other areas we visited. Make Takeo a definite and Phenom Chisor temple. I felt very safe and comfortable strolling around on my own even after dark.

    Alexis Stennett: Yaklom Hill Lodge in Ratanakiri Province. Gorgeous eco-lodge!

    Ian Smith: Have a look at travelfish.org. It provides a host of useful information for the independent traveller going to SE Asia.

    Phil Windscheffel: I would recommend Kampot in preference to Kep - there are far more  options for accommodation & eating. If it's a beach you are after you should stay on one of the islands. Alternatively, for a day trip, hire an outrigger with pilot and head to Rabbit Island
    from Kep. Sihanoukville is becoming over-developed.

    Also, take a look at Wanderlust's Cambodia travel guide and essential info page for more advice. I hope that helps! Have a fantastic trip.
