Petra event at the Royal Geographical Society (London) in August...

If you didn't see yesterday's enewsletter, we are holding a fantastic and very exclusive event at the RGS for Wanderlust subscribers.
As you may well know, 22 August is the 200th anniversary of the rediscovery of Petra by Johann Buckhardt. It is also the 50th anniversary of the film Lawrence of Arabia this year. London's RGS has some incredible Petra-related artefacts, diaries and maps in its archives, some of them that Buckhardt and other explorers sent back, and some from TE Lawrence  himself - including one of his headscarves!
They are usually locked away, but I was privileged enough to see them the other week, so I said out loud "Wow, Wanderlusters would love to see this." And lo, it has come to be. The RGS is available on the 22 August, and our nice friends at the Jordan Tourist Board and Cox & Kings have offered to buy the drinks and canapes. Wanderlust contributor (and Rough Guide author) Matthew Teller will give a talk about Petra. And you get to see the treasures from the archive. I can't stress enough how special this is!
The event is only open to Wanderlust subscribers and Cox & King customers, and we expect to be over-subscribed, so will do it as a ballot. So, if you hadn't noticed in the enewsletter or elsewhere, here's you heads-up. For more info and to register your interest, go here.

I signed up the minute I read about this. Not only am I hoping to get to Jordan in October, but I think Matthew Teller's writing is genius. I loved pieces he wrote for Wanderlust recently. The first one, on Palestine, was brilliant. And the second one, on Israel, was full of insight.
Oh great bucket in the towers, please may my name be picked out of you!

Actually, credit where credit's due, 'twas that lovely Flower in Power that sent me the link before this got posted, but sadly I'll be away awandering (again.... grrrrr!). Beginning to think The Towers only arrange these things when I'm away....

Oh that sounds really interesting... I've registered too.
Would love to attend the talk, see the artifacts and also meet up with other Wanderlusters.
