    Notification emails added

    Afternoon all,

Just to say, that an update has gone live on the site meaning that if someone posts a comment to a photo, an experience, a video, a Just Back From or a Forum question that you've created on the Wanderlust website, you will get a short email notifying you of it.

We use the email address that you used when registering with the Wanderlust website, if this isn't the correct email - you can change it by logging in to myWanderlust and then clicking on the My Profile link under My Pages.

If you don't want to receive emails when someone posts a comment, then you can unsubscribe from within the email.

As always, comments - good or bad - are always welcome.
    Kind regards
    Simon

Not keen on it myself so thanks for the opt out clause Simon, although I can see the merit for people who are not so au fait with the site, or who don't check in so often.
But.... a big cheers for the 'comment counter' under the stars! I know this is an artefact of the screen / ratio I'm using to view the site but I still have to scroll down to see whether pics have garnered stars and comments; of course, no such problem with experiences. Is there anything that you can take out above the pics or squash up a bit so that these things are visible without scrolling?
How was the Bird Fair? Cheers, J

Loving the notification thing, saves me logging in if I just want to browse, but if I know I have a comment then I can login more quickly.  Thanks, good improvement to an already good site.

good idea for those of us who still dont have the technology to be online on the go all the time - can then log in to see comments when I have time

Bit of a shock when I checked my emails this morning.  Will reserve judgement as I got really fed up with continual e mails from Face Book!  However, I don't think that is going to be a problem.

This is fantastic news, Simon. I don't live on the Wanderlust website like some do (mentioning no names Liz et al), and I hate missing comments by people who bothered to communicate on my pictures, so please thank your IT department for this welcome development.

Now, if we could just get rid of the silly star rating system...

    Thanks for the feedback.

If people find they're getting too many emails we could always do a daily email with all the comments listed rather than one email per comment.

    Cheers
    Simon

Love the email notifications. (I'd just like to point out I haven't been on the site for ages, apart from a quick foray into the forum, because it's been all work, work, travel, visit, write, work since arriving in the UK). I hope to rectify this next week :-)

Jamie - you do realise there is a MyComments icon where all the comments you may have received are listed in date order, with links back to where they were posted? Just in case you don't want to open every email you are likely to receive sequentially

I'm fairly ambivalent about the emails - I don't think I'm likely to get so many that I'll find them a problem.  (Like you, Angela, I find the FB notifications a pain.)

Starring is not obligatory, Jamie - if you don't like it, ignore it.

I can't say I'm bothered one way or the other as I'm unlikely to receive enough comments to be inundated with emails. A suggestion though, can we have more than 6 latest comments as I quite often miss comments people have made sometimes over a period of a few hours like tonight or at least an option to click and see more latest comments.

Angela/Rhoda you can stop all those annoying emails in FB, click the upside down triangle to the right of the Home link (top right of the page) and select Account Settings, then click Notifications (left side of page), you'll then be shown all the notifications you receive FB likes to enable loads of them by default, you can turn them off by editing the individual notifications. Thanks for that, Kev!  Done it.  Here's to a less cluttered Inbox.

One other thing, Simon - in the far off days of (whisper it) GoWander, direct-messaging between members was always being held out as coming 'in the next round of improvements' ...  It never happened.  Is there any chance of it happening on here any time soon?  It certainly would be useful although it would kill all the delightful non-sequiturs you get on postings when someone adds an answer to a question asked elsewhere.
