Any tips on discounts for parking? Wanderlust did a discount for ages but can't find anything - has this stopped?

I've never found anything cheaper on airport parking via Wanderlust promotions than I could find by a simple google search scheungy.....

I dont know about Stanstead but no offer applies to airports that only have one parking provider. Obviously, the power of competition applies here but, as DrG says, a google search will get you what you want. Sorry

Hi Scheungy, it's a bit ridiculous me trying to answer this as I can't drive but...I've just asked my husband and he says there are long stay, short stay and even-shorter-stay car parks but they are all owned by the airport so I don't know how reliable/genuine any of the discount websites are. I think you even have to pay at the 15 minute drop off place. Some people park in Bishop's Stortford and get the train in, but residents parking zones have been introduced in the last few years so be careful where you park if you want to do this. Having said that, there was a case recently where someone picked a house at random, parked in the driveway and then disappeared off on holiday for two weeks! Perfectly legal it seems, but I wouldn't recommend it - the householder wasn't happy.

Whatever you find, do compare the cost of a taxi there and back (or a friend/family member's fuel) with long term parking. The drop off point at Stanstead is an outrageous racket. If you miss the 15 minute slot, even by a few seconds, you're automatically rolled over to the next extortionate 15 minutes. Imagine trying to time your pick up to the nearest 15 minutes, it's just impossible. I sit on the road outside the airport waiting for a call to say that the person is actually outside on the pavement -- even then it's tight if the queue for the ticket machine payment is long. I can feel a rant coming on, so I'm going to make a cup of tea.

Why don't you catch the train, the station is directly beneath the terminal and trains run from 06:00 to 22:00, I never drove to Stansted I always caught the train.

I can't offer advice about Stansted as it's a few years since I parked there. I can offer a warning about the trains though as my daughter fell foul of this when our flight was delayed in Italy and on arrival the last train to London had gone. So if your flight returns close to the last train - beware! I always use holiday extras for long term parking at Heathrow. When Wanderlust was advertising discounts this site always worked out cheaper. Sometimes we've used hotels close to an airport for one night plus parking which can work out cheaper and useful if it's an early flight. On our next trip we are using a combination of train and airport rail bus, but that's not cheap either! Saves driving though.

Oh and Birmingham International is the same Liz. I was very shocked when dropping my OH off there recently that I had to pay to park in the drop-off zone! £1 for 10 mins and it can take that long to buy a ticket! On picking him up I got him to text me when he landed and made sure I still had a good half an hour to get to the airport. Didn't have pay at Heathrow or Gatwick but they'll probably cotton onto this despicable idea. I am rapidly going off flying anywhere altogether :-(
thanks all - will now check and get booked! USED TO GET TRAIN WHEN i LIVED IN lONDON BUT MORE HASTLE NOW AS OUT IN THE BACK OF BEYOND
