David Horwell

David Horwell worked as a naturalist in the Galápagos back in the 1970's when tourism was just taking-off. David is one of the few Brits to have become a licensed Galápagos guide. He has travelled the length and breadth of South America, from barren deserts to the high Andes, then down to the end-of-the-road at Tierra del Fuego.

He later travelled around Brazil including navigating the Amazon from Atlantic mouth to the Andes. He created Galápagos Adventure Tours, the pioneer in escorted tours to the Galápagos and Ecuador in 1985. David still enjoys taking small groups to Galápagos and Ecuador each year, and offers advice to independent travellers.

David still works as a tour operator, now called Select Latin America, and moonlights as photographer and Blog writer. He is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society; his photographs have been published in magazines from The Sunday Times to Wanderlust.

David has authored two books on Galápagos, including the best-selling 'Galápagos Wildlife' (Bradt) and has as participated in radio and TV broadcasts. He is never happier than when on the road exploring new corners and inspecting delightful hotels and lodges in the most remote places.
