Australia’S North West & Top End

From: £3065.00

Holiday overview

The open landscapes of Western Australia and the Northern Territory are for many the real Australia – ancient lands brimming with Aboriginal folklore, gorges, rainforests, beaches and billabongs.

This exciting luxury holiday from Western Australia's cosmopolitan capital Perth to Darwin in the Northern Territory's Top End takes in some of this remarkable country's less-visited highlights. Explore Rottnest Island, a car-free haven off the coast of Perth, relax with complimentary yoga on the beach at your eco-retreat near Broome, try crocodile jerky at Darwin's Mindil Beach Sunset Market as poets perform in the open air, admire Aboriginal rock art in the unspoilt wilds of Arnhem Land, and paddle a canoe through the sandstone gorges carved out by the mighty Katherine River. Throughout your tour you'll stay at handpicked accommodation, specially selected for its character, location and exceptional levels of Australian hospitality.

Holiday itinerary

Day 1: Depart UK

Board your overnight flight to Perth.

Days 2-3: Perth

Arrive in Perth, Australia's sunniest state capital, and transfer to the Terrace Hotel, an historic 19th century building turned boutique hotel that's garnering high praise for its food and service. Enjoy exploring Kings Park, take a cruise upriver to the 40 or so vineyards of Swan Valley, or perhaps visit Rottnest Island, a car-free haven with beautiful beaches, superb offshore reefs and a wonderful network of walking and cycling trails.

Days 4-6: Broome

Fly north to Broome, from where you'll take a scenic heli transfer to Eco Beach, a multi-award-winning eco-resort on the Indian Ocean, amid miles and miles of stunning, deserted beaches. The resort's 25 superbly appointed Eco Villas are connected by more than a kilometre of wooden boardwalks. Popular activities include complimentary daily yoga, whale-watching tours and fishing charters.

Day 7: Darwin

Fly from Broome to Darwin in the Northern Territory and transfer to the Adina Darwin Waterfront. There is time to relax and explore Australia's most northern city.

Day 8: Arnhem Land

Today you'll enjoy a full-day Arnhem Land tour in the company of an Aboriginal guide. Traditional culture still dominates Aboriginal-owned Arnhem Land and your guide's explanation of the ancient rock art at Injalak Hill – one of the best examples of Aboriginal art in Australia – is one of the many highlights of today's fascinating tour.

Days 9-10: Nitmiluk National Park

Start your three-day self-drive from Darwin to Cicada Lodge in Nitmiluk National Park, home to the rugged Katherine Gorge, one of the Northern Territory's most stunning natural attractions. The modern lodge is set in natural bush high above the ancient waterways of the Katherine river system. All 18 rooms are air-conditioned and feature private balconies and indigenous artwork from local artists. Facilities include a restaurant and an outdoor pool.

Day 11: Darwin

Return to Darwin, and drop off your car, finishing your self-drive. Stay for a final night at Adina Darwin Waterfront before transferring to the airport the next day.

Days 12-13: Darwin/UK

Head to the airport and board your onward flight, arriving home on day 13.
