Day 1 Take a flight from the UK to Vancouver, after clearing customs you will be met and transferred to your city centre hotel. The evening is at your leisure, we suggest taking a stroll along the waterfront or visiting the neighbourhoods of Yaletown or Gastown where you will find many lively bars and good restaurants. Accommodation: Wedgewood Hotel
Day 2 Enjoy a day at leisure exploring the sights of Vancouver. Rainbow Tours recommends hiring a bicycle from along the waterfront and cycling around Stanley Park Seawall, a flat 6-mile ride with views of Lions Gate Bridge and the North Shore Mountains. Take the free shuttle bus to Grouse Mountain Cable Car and ride to the top of the mountain for panoramic views over the city. Stop at Capilano Suspension Bridge, a footbridge swinging high above the Capilano River. One of the best ways to view Vancouver, the mountains and the Gulf Islands is on a Seaplane flight, leaving from Vancouver Harbour and flying over the city and Strait of Georgia.
Day 3 Today transfer to Vancouver Airport for your flight to Port Hardy on the north shore of Vancouver Island. Here you will transfer to Port Hardy’s seaplane base for your flight across the water to Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort in the Great Bear Rainforest. Accommodation: Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort
Day 4 A typical day at Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort could include bear watching from one of the platforms or from the water and exploring the coastal islands by kayak or stand up paddle boards. Small boat tours take you out on the sound in search of whales and other marine life. Follow the Big Nimmo Hiking Trail along the shoreline and in to the forest to waterfalls and rivers, always looking out for wildlife.
Day 5 The main activity between mid-May to late October is bear watching, whether that’s bears grazing on the shoreline, feasting on forest berries or grizzlies catching salmon up-river. There are numerous other activities included at Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort, including whale watching. For an additional cost, Nimmo Bay offers a range of helicopter adventures directly from the resort including heli-hiking and heli-fly-fishing.
Day 6 Today you will leave Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort and the Great Bear Rainforest behind and take a seaplane flight back to Port Hardy, ready to connect to your flight to Vancouver and home. Alternatively, extend your holiday and explore more of what Canada has to offer; your Travel Specialist will be more than happy to suggest an extended itinerary.
