This unique itinerary brings you the best of Northern Vietnam, taking in the bustling market streets of Hanoi, the scenic landscapes of the Mai Chau highlands and the Red River Delta, local homestays in ethnic minority villages, to the emerald waterways and rugged islands of Halong Bay.
This trip takes in the must-see gems of the north but also steps off the well-worn path to gain a deeper appreciation of the region’s people, culture and natural wilderness—by bike, hike and kayak. From the colourful streets of Hanoi we transfer to the scenic valleys of Mai Chau highlands, where we cycle and walk between the traditional stilted villages of the White Thai minority. Our days are spent cycling along back roads and trekking through pretty scenes of rice paddies, bamboo forests and mountains and experience a memorable homestay with the Muong minority at Khanh Village. We explore the beautiful Cuc Phuong National Park and Ninh Binh by bike, boat and foot, before finally retreating to the serenity of Halong Bay where we spend two nights aboard a traditional ‘junk’ boat, cruising and kayaking our way through emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone outcrops. The combination of stunning scenery, back roads adventuring and engagement with local culture makes this an ideal trip for anyone looking for an€tive and engaging journey in Northern Vietnam.
