Days 1-2: Depart UK
Board your flight and depart the UK, beginning your journey to Australia and tour of the Great Barrier Reef, via a stopover.
Days 3-4: Port Douglas
On arrival in Cairns you'll pick up a rental car and make the incredibly scenic 90 minute coastal drive along the Captain Cook Highway to Port Douglas. Queensland's tropical north beachside town is gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, World Heritage rainforests and a blend of boutiques, shopping and activities, Port Douglas has plenty on offer. Cruise by catamaran for a day of swimming, snorkelling and diving along the reefs outer edge, enjoy refreshing cocktails and fine dining at one of the many bars and restaurants that line Four Mile Beach, hike, bike, kayak and golf or soak up the sun at your hotel pool or beach.
Days 5-7: Daintree National Park
It's just a short drive north to Silky Oaks Lodge in the ancient rainforests of the Daintree National Park. With an enchanting setting on the edge of Mossman Gorge, Silky Oaks Lodge is the perfect base for exploring. The sights and sounds of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park make Silky Oaks a very special place to stay, and the hammocks on private verandas and oversized spa baths are indulgent spots from which to take them in.
You'll stay in spacious treehouses and riverhouses, and amenities include a swimming pool, tennis court and the wonderful Healing Waters day spa. You can also enjoy yoga classes, guided nature tours, canoeing and snorkelling trips in the Mossman Gorge and incredible 4WD tours of the region. Fine dining in the Treehouse Restaurant is another highlight, with the river running by and a choice of the finest Australian wines to accompany your meal whilst the Healing Waters Spa is regarded as one of the best in Queensland.
Days 8-12: Lizard Island
Leaving the mainland behind you'll drive back to Cairns for your flight to Lizard Island in the northern Great Barrier Reef. The short but breathtakingly scenic flight takes just 60 minutes and gives you a birds eye view of the Great Barrier Reef and verdant rainforest of Cape Tribulation as it tumbles down to the sea.
Lizard Island is the ultimate in understated luxury, ideal for divers looking to explore the best of the reef, but just as good for sun worshippers with no less than 24 secluded white sand beaches to choose from. Enjoy wonderful dining at Osprey's Restaurant or take a gourmet hamper to the beach to enjoy in between swims in the warm, turquoise waters of the Coral Sea. A multitude of activities are included and you can be as energetic or as relaxed as you choose.
Day 13: Departure
After breakfast, board your scheduled flight back to Cairns for your onward flight home.
Day 14: Arrive UK
Arrive back in the UK after an overnight flight and continue your journey home.
