Holiday overview

This fully escorted holiday with our partners at APT begins with 12-days of luxury touring through the Rocky Mountains, starting in Vancouver and taking in spectacular landscapes of Whistler, Sun Peaks, Jasper National Park, Lake Louise and Banff, as well as a journey on the Rocky Mountaineer, one of the world's great rail journeys. Your Rocky Mountain tour ends in Victoria on Vancouver Island, followed by a return to the mainland and the start of a memorable Alaskan Inside Passage Cruise with Holland America Line, visiting Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay and Ketchikan.

Holiday itinerary

Day 1: Vancouver

Fly from the UK to Vancouver on Canada's beautiful west coast in the province of British Columbia. You'll be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel, take the remainder of the day to relax before this evening's welcome dinner, the perfect opportunity to get to know your fellow guests and APT Tour Director.

Day 2: Vancouver

This morning you'll enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Vancouver, introducing you to this cosmopolitan coastal city's main attractions, including Stanley Park, a beautiful, 400-hectare oasis located just moments from the heart of the city. From there you'll head to Granville Island, the hub of the Vancouver's burgeoning cultural scene. You'll also visit English Bay before enjoying an afternoon at leisure to explore the rest of the city at your own pace. Perhaps take in the quaint, cobblestone streets of Gastown, the shopping mecca of Robson Street or the peace and tranquillity and magical panoramic view from Queen Elizabeth Park.

Day 3: Kamloops

After breakfast you'll transfer to Vancouver's railway station for your first taste of life aboard the Rocky Mountaineer. Relax in the comfort of GoldLeaf class as you set out across the Rocky Mountains, passing through the Fraser River Valley, the towering peaks of the Coastal Mountains and the thundering waters of Hell's Gate and follow the path of the Thompson River to the town of Kamloops where you'll spend the night. Please note, accommodation in Kamloops is arranged by Rocky Mountaineer. The town has limited accommodation so your hotel will be of a two to three-star standard.

Day 4: Spiral Tunnels, Banff

Your journey continues east as you head deeper into the mountains. Today's journey takes you through vast ranchlands, past Shuswap Lake and along the banks of the South Thompson River. Pass through the spectacular Spiral Tunnels and across the Kicking Horse Pass, as you head across the Continental Divide and into the province of Alberta. On arrival in Banff you'll be transferred to your hotel.

Day 5: Banff National Park

Today is free to enjoy the delights of the Banff National Park. With APT's Signature Freedom of Choice - sightseeing you can choose from a range of activities including the Banff Experience, which includes a visit to the Cave and Basin National Historic Site. Alternatively you may wish to take to the skies for an aerial view of Banff on a helicopter flight-seeing excursion, or take a relaxing float trip down the beautiful Bow River. Other options include a visit to the Willow Stream Spa, a cruise on Lake Minnewanka, or a guided canoe paddle.

This evening enjoy dinner in one of the hotel's many superb restaurants.

Day 6: Moraine Lake and Lake Louise

You'll meet a Mountie this morning and hear stories of the adventures of the famous Royal Canadian Mounted Police before boarding the Banff Gondola for a ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain and breathtaking views of the national park. Return to the town for a tour of Banff village, before boarding a coach for a scenic journey along the Trans-Canada Highway, passing Moraine Lake on your way to Lake Louise and a guided hike around the lake shore. 

Dinner this evening is in one of the hotels excellent restaurants. 

Day 7: Athabasca Glacier and Jasper

This morning you'll travel along Highway 93 more commonly known as the spectacular 'Icefields Parkway' regarded one of the worlds truly great scenic drives the view is an astounding vision of icy glaciers, vast icefields and serene blue lakes. You'll stop at the huge Columbia Icefield for ride onto the Athabasca Glacier in a purposely designed Ice Explorer. Travelling via the Athabasca Falls you arrive at Jasper National Park in the late afternoon with time to relax and explore this pretty alpine village.

Day 8: Mount Robson, Blue River and Sun Peaks

Head down the Yellowhead Highway this morning, which takes you across the pass of the same name and back across the Continental Divide into British Columbia, stopping along the way at the Mount Robson Provincial Park to take in the spectacular views of Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Arrive in the town of Blue River where you'll board a boat for a wildlife cruise, keeping an eye out for black and grizzly bears, moose, caribou, eagles and other native species. After lunch you'll continue by coach to Sun Peaks, a picturesque alpine resort, which sits at the base of three mountains.

Day 9: Whistler

Depart Sun Peaks this morning, following in the footsteps of the early gold rush pioneers as you make your way across the rugged landscapes of the Cariboo Region. Travel back through the rural communities of Cache Creek and Lillooet, enjoying views of the Seton and Duffey Lakes. In the late afternoon you'll enter the Coast Mountains, before arriving at the resort of Whistler.
