This two-week holiday combines a stay in Cape Town with a luxurious journey by rail through the South African countryside to Pretoria, and finishes with a four-night safari at andBeyond Kirkman's Kamp, which has some of the best Big Five game viewing in the country.
Day 1: London to Cape Town
Fly overnight from London to Cape Town, South Africa.
Days 2-4: Cape Town
Arrive in Cape Town and check in for three nights at Queen Victoria Hotel, located just yards from the V&A Waterfront. Hike to the top of Table Mountain, swim with penguins at Boulders Beach, tour infamous Robben Island or dig a little deeper into the city's past on an historic township tour.
Day 5: Rovos Rail Luxury Train
Recapture the romance and atmosphere of a bygone era as you step aboard the lovingly restored Rovos Rail Pride of Africa, where gourmet chefs prepare outstanding meals enhanced by the finest South African wines. Settle down in your Pullman Suite, and depart Cape Town station, heading east through the Cape Winelands before arriving at the pretty Victorian village of Matjiesfontein.
Day 6: Kimberley
Enjoy a city tour of Kimberley and visit the Diamond Mine Museum and the world’s largest man-made excavation, the Big Hole.
Day 7: Pretoria
After a hearty breakfast, travel through Johannesburg en route to Pretoria before arriving in Pretoria and transferring to the 131 on Herbert Baker boutique hotel.
Day 8: Sabi Sands Game Reserve
Transfer to Johannesburg International Airport for a short flight to the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which is adjacent to the Kruger National Park. Stay at the delightful andBeyond Kirkman's Kamp, where you'll enjoy fantastic game-viewing opportunities and an authentic 1920s atmosphere.
Days 9-11: Sabi Sands Game Reserve
Flanking Kruger National Park, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is the birthplace of sustainable wildlife tourism in South Africa and is the oldest of the country’s private game reserves. Home to a vast population of wildlife, including the Big Five and many endangered species, animals here are able to pass unhindered between the reserve and national park. Enjoy twice-daily game drives by 4x4 jeep with your expert ranger and tracker and relax in your room or by the pool in between, or perhaps treat yourself to a spa treatment.
Day 12: Departure
Transfer to Skukuza Airport for your return flight back to the UK via Johannesburg.
Day 13: Arrive in London
Arrive in London, and continue your onward journey home.
