Day 1 - Travel to Ometepe
We travel from Liberia in Costa Rica to the border with Nicaragua and transfer to San Jorge for the ferry to the island of Ometepe with two volcano peaks, on the magnificent Lake Nicaragua.
Day 2 - Explore or stay by the beach
Stay by the beach and take a full day island tour learning about its ancient culture and exploring the natural wonders.
Day 3 - Granada
Boat to the mainland and transfer to Granada where Spanish colonial heritage is evident in the local architecture. Tour of the city on a horse drawn carriage.
Day 4 - Boat trip to the Lake
We take a boat trip to view the small islands on the lake and enjoy their rich flora and fauna as well as a visit to an impressive 17th century Spanish fortress and the Mombacho forest.
Day 5 - Leon
Travel on to the colonial city of León, stopping at the Masaya handicraft market for typical handmade wares, such as hammocks and ceramics.
Day 6 - Cerro Negro
The next morning visit the Cerro Negro volcano, hike around the crater with our specialist guide, enjoying the spectacular views. Later we visit Juan Venado Island and León's historic centre.
Day 7 - Managua & Leon Viejo
Continue to Managua, visit the ruins of Leon Viejo, a UNESCO site and stay for one night with a tour of the city.
Day 8 - Departure
On Day 8 return to Costa Rica, or transfer to the beach at Morgan's Rock for an optional extension.
