Day 1 - Departure from the UK
Departure any day of the week for Santiago, arriving the next morning. You will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel.
Day 2 - Santiago city tour
After arriving in the morning, in the afternoon we explore the city, set in a wide plain with the Andes stretching into the distance. Santiago offers bohemian areas, large craft markets, grand central squares and the Cerro San Cristóbal, a hill which can be reached by funicular railway, for superb panoramic views of the city.
Day 3 - Santiago at leisure
Day at leisure to explore on your own. We suggest taking a tour of the Pacific Coast at Vina del Mar and Valparaiso, or inland to the mountains in the Canon del Maipo
Day 4-5 - Valparaiso
Transfer to collect your self drive vehicle and briefing, map, itinerary description and directions. You have contact details for all hotels booked along your route. Drive to Valparaiso, a UNESCO world heritage site in a picturesque setting, enhanced by the surrounding hills and the Pacific ocean. Explore the Pacific coast line north to Viña del Mar and Reñaca, both famous seaside resorts.
Days 6-7 - Santa Cruz Wineries
Drive up to the picturesque mountain town of Santa Cruz famous for its vineyards. Overnight at Santa Cruz Hotel. Explore the surrounding countryside and vineyards of "la ruta del vino"(the wine route).
Day 8 - Chillan
Continue south along the Andes, overnight stop at the Gran Hotel Isabel Riquelme in Chillan.
Days 9 - 11 - Pucon & Villarrica Volcano
Drive to the beautiful Chilean Lake District and Pucón, staying for 3 nights with spectacular views of Lake Villarrica, surrounded by mountains, trees and waterfalls. Pucón is famous for its scenery with snow-capped volcanoes, crystal clear lakes and rivers, thermal baths and national parks. You can arrange locally numerous activities such as trekking the Villarrica Volcano, rafting, horse riding and guided walks.
Days 12-13 - Puerto Varas
Drive further south to Puerto Varas located on Lake Llanquihue, near Petrohué Falls and Lago Todos Los Santos, whose deep, clear, emerald green waters are framed by the snowcapped Osorno volcano. Two days to explore the area at your own pace, with walks and boat trips. Nearby is Chiloe, with its unique blend of isolated island culture, small fishing communities and small wooden UNESCO-listed churches, constructed by the Jesuit missionaries arriving in the 16th century.
Day 14 - Puerto Montt to return home
Drive to Puerto Montt airport, where you will return the car and take your departure flight to Santiago connecting with the overnight flight home, arriving on Day 15. Or extend your holiday and visit Argentinian San Martin de Los Andes and Bariloche.
