Day 1 - Flight London to Quito
Take a daytime flight to Quito, arriving the same evening, where you will be met by our representative and taken to your hotel. This is also the opportunity for our guide to provide you advice, explain your programme and answer any questions you may have.
Day 2 - Otavalo and Quito City Tour
We take a trip to the Andean town of Otavalo to visit its magnificent market, where men and women with long plaited hair, dressed in their traditional clothes, sell all types of weavings, handicrafts and homegrown produce. Return to Quito to explore the colonial quarter with its narrow cobblestone streets and many beautiful churches. Also visit the Archaeological Museum.
Days 3-6 - Amazon Lodge & excursions
Our day starts with a flight into the Amazon and a trip up river to our Amazon lodge located in the peace and tranquility of virgin rainforest, overlooking a lagoon. From here our resident naturalist guides take us on a variety of hikes, both by night and by day, canoeing trips up creeks and exploring the rainforest to observe the exuberant vegetation and the vast, dense tree canopy and it may possible to visit the parrot clay lick, bursting with activity and colour.
Day 7 - Return to Quito for 1 night
Day 8 - Tour of Cotopaxi Volcano
Depart to the perfectly cone-shaped Cotopaxi Volcano, rising 5,897m, set in the wild páramo of the National Park. Continue along the Andean Mountains, so called "Avenue of Volcanoes" to an Indian village where local weavers demonstrate their skills on the traditional shuttle looms, and onto Riobamba, to enjoy its thermal springs, surrounded by stunning scenery.
Day 9 - Ingapirca and Cuenca
We journey south to Cuenca, a charming colonial city, embraced by silent mountains. On the way we stop at the small Inca archaeological of Ingapirca.
Day 10 - Gualaceo Valley
A full day excursion out of the city to the fertile Gualaceo Valley and Chordeleg, passing remote villages and farmsteads amidst gently rolling hills.
Day 11 - Cuenca Tour and Cajas National Park
Morning Tour of Cuenca including a Panama Hat factory and La Inmaculada cathedral.
Day 12 - Cajas National Park
Next day journey to Guayaquil, stopping at the Cajas National Park.
Days 13-19 - Galapagos cruise with daily guided excursions
Flight to the Galápagos Islands where Darwin observed the wildlife that would lead him to his theory of evolution. Basking marine iguanas, waved albatrosses, blue and red footed boobies, 500lb tortoises, and friendly sea lions abound. Cruise for 7 nights with guided excursions every morning and afternoon: walking, swimming and snorkelling, accompanied by our expert Naturalist guides to see as much friendly wildlife as possible. First Class cruises aboard Letty in an Iguana deck cabin and Tourist Class cruises on the M/Y Samba.
Day 20 - Travel back to UK
Flight back to the mainland and connect with our return flight home, ariiving the following day, Day 21.
