Appealing equally to first time visitors and those lucky enough to be returning, Myanmar: Beyond The Ordinary is one such finely balanced itinerary that takes in the country’s lesser visited back-roads as well as some must-see highlights.

Entering by land from Chiang Rai, Thailand, you'll spend a few days in the eastern Shan State, with Kengtung providing the perfect base while you explore Colonial hill stations, minority villages and, for those that wish to dust off their walking boots, some stunning trails.

Heading west, you'll spend a day getting to know the elephant residents at the inspiring Green Hill Valley Elephant Project close to Kalaw, and learn about the project’s conservation efforts, before joining locals on the train to Nyaung Shwe, which sits on the shores of Inle Lake.

The hills around Inle Lake are ideal trekking country and an overnight trek will take you deep into the rural countryside and forests where you will have the opportunity to interact and stay with the Pa-O community who inhabit this picturesque region.

Following one night back in Nyaung Shwe, continue your journey west, dropping in on the astonishing Bagan - its temples stretching to the horizon - before finally arriving in Yangon. Myanmar really is one inspirational travel experience after another.
