Ramblers Walking Holidays brings you undulating paths through the vineyards heavy with Gewrztraminer and Riesling grapes. In the village of Riquewihr below with its red roofs, cobbled alleyways and half timbered buildings, the locals are waiting for the mayor to declare the start of the harvest. Above, the slopes rise up to wooded ridges and in the distance a line of white clouds, bright against the sky, hover above Germany. Most of our walks start and ends at our hotel in Kayserberg, (voted Frances favourite town in 2017!). Several walks follow the Sentier Vinicole des Grands Crus, linking typical Alsatian villages via woodland and open tracks and showcasing this fertile landscape planted with vines. This is the heartland of an ancient Franco-Alemanic culture, an area whose picture-book beauty has survived the ravages of history. Here and there our walks bring us€ross ruined castles such as the towers of the Donjon dEguisheim, rising from the wooded hillsides, or the mountain fortress of Haut-Koenigsbourg? The cities of Colmar and Strasbourg lay a short distance away, possible destinations for a free day. Here, as in the evenings, you can enjoy the Franco-German gastronomic pleasures of Flammkuchen, Choucroute Garni, Baeckeoffe, Tarte lOignon if you are not sure what they are, come and discover for yourself!
