Guided Walking Holidays - Exploring the Sorrento Peninsula Since the beginning of history man has been beguiled by the beautiful scenery that surrounds the Bay of Naples. The fertile volcanic soil and abundant seas have provided sustenance of the highest quality. Ramblers Walking Holidays have been offering a chance to enjoy all the bay has to offer in terms of history, culture, walking, food and drink for very many years. Now we are introducing more variety in our walking programme. By adding some departures offering walks at two grades on each day, keener walkers are able to stride further into the hills. We now offer a chance to take in greater sections of the famed Walk of the Gods as well as many other stunning walks that climb through and along the mountain chain that surrounds the bay and divides it from the Amalfi coast to the south. We combine rambles on the Sorrento Peninsula and in the Lattari Mountains and enjoy visits to the myriad of local world class sites. Below Vesuvius are the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum which were engulfed by its eruption in AD79. Both sites vividly evoke the past. Sorrento, a famous holiday resort since Roman times, is easily€cessible from Vico Equense. The Amalfi coast with the famous towns of Amalfi, Positano and Ravello await exploration. South of Salerno is Paestum where there are three magnificent Greek temples and a splendid museum. We can spend a day in the animated and colourful city of Naples which is richly endowed with beautiful churches and palaces. There is normally time for a visit to the romantic island of Capri. With so much to see, these holidays offer a busy fortnight or an even busier week. Alternate weeks follow a different itinerary, however to see everything you need at least two weeks. All transport costs for the programme are included in the holiday charge, entrance fees are not included. Some departures in May and September 2018 and May and September 2019 will have two leaders and offer two grades of walking. Please see individual departure dates for details.
