Guided Walking Holidays - Adriatic Coasts and Islands The Adriatic is never far away as we hop by land and ferry between towns and islands along the coast of Montenegro and Croatia. From Europes southernmost fjord, the Bay of Kotor, to the waves lapping the beach on the island of Korcula, water is our constant companion. Each of the pretty sun-drenched towns in which we stay lie close to a network of ancient paths linking rural villages. Our holiday is€companied throughout by a local walking guide, as well as your Ramblers Walking Holidays leader. We start in Herceg Novi in Montenegro, close to the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, in whose old town one palm-shaded square leads to another. Above rises Mount Orjen, where one of our walks follows a trail to the isolated Za Vratlom mountain hut, set amidst landscapes of high pasture, open woods and rocky outcrops. We move on to Kotor town itself, at the far reaches of the fjord, hemmed in by water and mountains and fortified by impressive walls. One day we follow the ridge which separates the Kotor and Tivat sides of the bay. From Kotor we visit Budva, walking in the hinterland, way above the coast. Besides the walking there is also time to visit these picture-postcard seaside towns, as well as the idyllically sited fortified island village of Sveti Stefan. Now we move north into Croatia where an overnight and morning amidst the red roofs of Dubrovnik is followed by a ferry ride out to Korcula, the greenest and most interesting of Croatias thousand islands. Our hotel lies close to the marina, from where we follow the coastal path to the islands capital with views out to the tiny islands in the archipelago. We also visit the island of Mljet, walking around the islands lakes. We return to Dubrovnik for an overnight stay near the airport before our flight home. Simply an exceedingly nice holiday!
