Gonarezhou National Park, located in a remote corner of Masvingo Province in SE Zimbabwe. At over 5,000 km² it is vast – and because of its size, rugged terrain and its location away from the main tourist routes, large tracts of it really do remain a pristine wilderness. The Chilojo adventurer is a new adventure package from Chilo Gorge Lodge, which shot to fame this year when its senior guide, Clive Stockil, received the inaugural Prince William Lifetime Achievement Award for Conservation in Africa from the Tusk Trust.
The three night Chilojo Adventurer provides guests with an extraordinary trip into the wilderness, taking guests from the lodge - both on foot and by 4x4 - with rifle totting guides, to sleep out in the bush in a tented camp.. The journey goes across the Save and Runde rivers to Tembwehata and Machanu Water Pans before arriving at the magnificent and iconic Chilojo Cliffs, the highest part of Gonarezhou, to enjoy spectacular views. The pans are a haven for hippos and crocodiles, as well as a huge diversity of water birds, raptors, herds of eland, buffalo, elephants, wildebeest, zebra, bushbuck, and kudu. Thanks to the conservation efforts Clive and his team, as well as significant investment by the Frankfurt Zoological Society, the area is also home to endangered species such as wild dog, the rare suni antelope, and all the big cats.
