Day 5 Head south from Rio and travel along the Green Coast to the attractive colonial town of Paraty (journey time around 4 hours). Stay here for 2 nights. The afternoon is free for exploring
Day 6 Day at leisure. With traffic forbidden in the historic centre, Paraty is a pleasant town to stroll around, and has many interesting buildings as well as nice restaurants and boutiques. Walk to the pier and see the fishermen bring in their catch, or take a schooner cruise to an offshore island where you can swim in the sea.
Day 7 Today you take a road transfer to Rio airport for the short flight to Iguazu. The Iguazu Falls is one of South America’s most impressive natural wonders, bordering Brazil and Argentina. Day 8 Half day trip to the Brazilian Iguazu National Park where we drive through the lush, subtropical vegetation of the park en route to the falls. Trail winds towards the falls from the area in front of the hotel, populated by coatis, long-tailed raccoon-like creatures with a well-developed sense of tourists' feeding habits. At its end, an elevator provides speedier access to a viewing platform at the foot of the falls.
Day 9 Cross the border to Argentina via the Tancredo Neves Bridge over the Iguazu River. To visit the Devil's Throat we will take a electric train for a visit through the park with 2 stops until the trail where the walking tour begins to the visit the upper walkways which allows a different and more intimate contact with the falls and the rainforest. The highlight of the trip is a visit to the suspended platform at the very brink of the Devil's Throat which is the largest of the waterfalls. Return by train to visit the upper Argentinean falls, including the San Martin Falls. If weather and time allows, a brief stop at the 3 Borders point, where Paraná and Iguazu Rivers as well as the borders or Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay encounter.
