Exploring the Okavango Delta, a vast watery inland area of interlocking streams, lagoons, lily fields and palm tree islands, is phenomenal in itself, but add to this the chance to ride along side herds of giraffe and zebra, and this is a very special holiday.
The horses are well schooled and chosen for their temperament and you'll be riding in a small group - usually 8 people. Riders need to be at an intermediate or experienced level. This 5, 7 or 10-night riding safari is based in a private concession of over 2500 sq km, and the trip moves between two different camps. Accommodation is in spacious Meru-style tents each with its own bucket and pulley shower and bush loo.
Day 1 Depart on direct overnight flight from London Heathrow to Johannesburg.
Day 2 On arrival early morning connect with the mid morning flight to Maun Airport, Botswana, where you are met and transferred by air into the Okavango Delta, for the start of your 5 night horse safari with all meals and scheduled activities included.
Day 3 The day starts with 4-6 hours in the saddle and afternoons can be spent enjoying alternative activities including swimming, game drives, mokoros (traditional dug out canoe) or walking. Some days are full riding days with a stop for picnic lunch and have support vehicle, allowing afternoon siesta on camp beds through the heat of the day before continuing the afternoon ride. Maximum of 8 riders, larger group bookings can also be accommodated on request, non-riders welcome.
Day 7 Return to Maun Airport for late afternoon flight to Johannesburg, where you connect with your return overnight flight to London Heathrow. Alternatively you could continue onto another safari area, Victoria Falls or even Cape Town for example
