This holiday takes you to some of Argentina's more remote and most spectacular regions in the Northwest corner of the country. Each day you will join group tours that visit some of the local highlights including the Calchaqui Valleys, with its deep ravines and spectacular mountainous scenery. Taste local wines produced in the high altitude area of Cafayate and take in the views of historical towns such as Seclantes and Molinos. Travel through the spectacular Shell's Gorge, visiting peculiar rock formations such as the Devil's Throat and The Amphitheatre. A full day is spent in the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a deep valley or ravine and a major cultural route. Throughout the valley you will come across small settlements, witness some spectacular scenery and have the opportunity to see local rock art. Top off this trip in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires where you can take in the cultural highlights, see an authentic tango show and try delicious Argentine cuisine.

Itinerary

Day 1 Take the overnight flight to Buenos Airies from London Heathrow and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2 On arrival at Salta Airport you will be met and taken by private transfer to your hotel, where you will spend one night at Legado Mitico. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to explore the town. Visit the Cathedral, San Francisco Church and San Bernardo Hill where you can enjoy fantastic views of the town.

Day 3 The journey starts from Salta city to the south, through route 68 going past different towns of Lerma Valley and the National Park Los Cardones. Arrive at Cachi in time for lunch. After visiting the archaeological museum enjoy a free afternoon and spend the night in Cachi at La Merced del Alto..

Day 4 Today you continue down route 40 to admire mountainous landscapes with towns of great enchantment. Bordering the Calchaquí River, you can observe historical towns such as Seclantas, Molinos, Angastaco, San Carlos and Animana. By the end of the afternoon we arrive to Cafayate, where you will spend the night at Vinas de Cafayate. Make sure you try the Torrontes white wine which is a speciality from this region.

Day 5 We visit some wineries, and after having lunch, we return to Salta through The Shells´ Gorge, visiting the peculiar rock formations caused by the rain and wind, such as The Amphitheatre or The Devil´s Throat. We arrive to Salta after crossing The Lerma Valley. With Quilmes we visit some wineries and leave towards Quilmes ruins. After lunch we return to "Salta" through the "Quebrada de las Conchas" (the Shells) and the "Lerma" Valley. Spend the night at Legado Mitico.

Day 6 Quebrada de Humahuaca, a World Heritage area, where the landscape and the colours of the hills combine with the coloured cultures that inhabit this area. You will learn the social and the cultural customs of this place and its ancient traditions. After arriving in the village of Purmamarca, you will observe the Cerro de los Siete Colores (The Hill of Seven Colours), where there is an adobe chapel in honour of Santa Rosa de Lima, declared National Historic Monument dating back to 1648 and the Art-craft market, located in the main square. You will pass by Posta de Hornillos, continuing towards the village of Tilcara in order to visit the Pucará, which is an old pre-Columbian aboriginal fortress, partly rebuilt, and the archaeological museum. Pass over the Tropic of Capricorn Pass, from where we will see the colours of the hill called the Pollera de la Colla. Visit the church of Uquía, holding the paintings of the Ángeles Arcabuceros (The Harquebusier Angels) an important trace of the Cuzqueña School. Visit Humahuaca founded by the Indians in 1594 with its colonial style with its adobe houses, narrow and cobbled streets, and colonial lanterns. This full day group tour also visits San Salvador de Jujuy where you will stop by the Salón de la Bandera (Flag Hall) and the Cathedral. Return to Salta following a mountain road with abundant subtropical vegetation, pass by the Abra de Santa Laura (Santa Laura Mountain Pass), looking at the Ciénaga dike, Las Maderas and Campo Alegre and we will return to Salta, passing by Vaqueros. Spend the night at Legado Mitico.

Day 7 Transfer to Salta airport for your onward flight to Buenos Aires and enjoy two nights in this vibrant city.

Day 8 In the morning enjoy a half day city tour including all the highlights of the city - the Obelisk, La Boca and Recoleta Cemetery where Eva Peron is buried. In the evening enjoy a tango show at Esquina Carlos Gardel where you can watch the dancing accompanied by an Argentine dinner.

Day 9 Spend time at leisure before transferring to the airport for your return flight.
