Oman is a destination that offers something for everyone from wildlife enthusiasts to landscape photographers. This tour starts with a morning if dolphin and whale watching off the coast of Muscat, followed by a night in the beautiful Jabal Akhdar Mountains, and two nights taking in some cultural sites around Nizwa. You will then enjoy an exhilarating afternoon of dune bashing in the Wahiba sands before finishing your interior tour of Oman at the Ras Al Jinz sea turtle sanctuary. The tour ends with a few nights of relaxation in the lush city of Salalah.
Day 1 Depart from London Heathrow on an overnight flight to Muscat.
Day 2 On arrival in the early morning you will be met by your English speaking driver/guide who will be with you for the next five nights and transferred to the Crowne Plaza for a 2 night stay in a sea view room with all breakfast included.
Day 3 The next morning you will be met and transferred to the Marina to embark on a Dolphin and Whale watching boat trip. Not every trip guarantees a sighting, but you are sure to enjoy a trip out to sea and enhance your knowledge of nature’s most fascinating marine mammals. After lunch proceed to the modern commercial centre existing in harmony with its traditional culture. With its natural harbour, Muscat means “Anchorage” & lies in a natural volcanic bowl. Our tour of Bait Al Zubair Museum (except Friday - Closed) is a brief introduction that traces Oman’s history and development. Drive along the waterfront Corniche visiting the colourful Muttrah Souq. We proceed for a photo stop to the magnificent Al Alam Palace, official palace of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos flanked by the 16th century Portuguese forts Mirani & Jalali.
Day 4 Your transfer to today involves an exciting four-wheel drive journey through the mountains, stopping at the hot springs at Nakhl. Drive through the spectacular Wadi Bani Auf, this stretch of graded road is very adventurous as it involves steep bends and bumpy roads. Stop at the quaint mountain village of Bilad Sayt framed by the dramatic mountains. The route winds through mountains all the way into the village of Al Hamra characterized by its mud houses and date plantations. The day ends at The View in a luxury hillside eco tent with views down the Jabal Shams Mountains, breakfast and dinner included.
Day 5 Today you will head for Jebel Shams for spectacular view so of the mountain range, stopping along the way at the terrace farming village of Wadi. From here take a tour of the famous Round Tower Fort, built in the 17th century, and its Souq renowned for its Friday cattle auction, intricately hand-carved “Khanjars” (daggers) and ornamental silver jewellery. Proceed to visit Jabrin, the finest of Oman’s Castles built in the late 17th century, here the visitor is able to capture the medieval atmosphere and view the beautiful hand painted ceilings and carved door frames. Your day ends in the town of Nizwa where you will stay at the Golden Tulip in a standard room for 2 nights with breakfast included.
Day 6 The next day you will drive to the pretty village of Birkat Al Mauz. Enjoy a walk through the lush green date plantations. From here a 36 km stretch of winding road takes one to Jebel Al Akhdar (2000 metres above sea level) the green jewel of the Al Hajjar mountain ranges, a truly unique spot in the Arabian Peninsula. Enjoy the cool climate up in the mountains. Al Jebel Al Akhdar is famed for its fruit orchards typically laid out terrace style along the slopes of mountains, which are endowed with natural springs. The villages of Saiq, Wadi Bani Habib (the village of the old houses) & Al Ain dot the landscape. The villages overlook a spectacular landscape of dramatic peaks, gorges and wadis. The roses of Jabal Al Akhdar fill the air with fragrance when in full bloom (March / April). Rose water is distilled in the homes of the villagers.
Day 7 This morning you will drive via Izki, Sinaw souk and Mudhaybi to the Wahiba Sands, a vast mass of undulating red and white sea of sand and dunes rising up to 200 metres. Enjoy some dune bashing and a visit to a Bedouin community before proceeding to Wadi Bani Khalid. This Wadi comprises of small pretty villages embedded in the mountains and has clear deep blue water. The day ends along the coast at Ras Al Jinz for a 1 night stay at Carpace with breakfast and dinner included. This evening you will walk down to the beach to observe sea turtles coming up onto the beaches to lay their eggs, and if you are lucky you may even see a newly hatched turtle valiantly making its way towards the ocean.
Day 8 This morning is an early start to drive to Muscat airport, stopping at the Bimmah sinkhole en route. Check in for your afternoon flight to Salalah. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Marriott Hotel for a 3 night stay in a sea view room with breakfast included. The next few days are at your leisure, enjoy relaxing by the warm ocean or take tours around Salalah and explore this interesting town.
Day 11 Transfer to the Salalah airport for your day flight back to London Heathrow via Muscat.
