Oman is a country with a vibrant and rich history and culture coupled with dramatic landscapes and interesting wildlife, this Discover Oman Tour gives you an insight into all that Oman has to offer. You will be introduced to the Mountains of Jebel Al Akhdar, where you can see traditional life that has continued unchanged for hundreds of years, experience a thrilling ride over the vast desert dunes of the Wahiba Sands desert, and witness the moving journey nesting sea turtles in Ras Jinz and finally you will explore the modern commercial centre of Muscat and marvel at the Grand Mosque where old meets new.
Day 1 Depart from London Heathrow on an overnight Oman Air flight.
Day 2 On arrival early morning you are met and transfer to Jebel Al Akhdar for a two night stay at Al Sahab Hotel with breakfast and dinner included. You will be taken on a guided walking tour of the mountain villages and see the traditional lifestyle enjoyed by the locals. When not exploring the hotel has a lovely pool with views over the Jebel Al Akhdar Mountains.
Day 4 After breakfast drive out of the mountains to the town of Nizwa for a two night stay at Golden Tulip Hotel with breakfast included. You will pass through the Wadi Al Madeen and proceed onto the pretty village of Birkat Al Mauz for a walk through the lush green date plantations which are irrigated by ancient waterways. The next day take a tour of the Jabrin Palace where you can capture the medieval atmosphere and view the beautiful hand painted ceilings and carved door frames. Next stop is the Wadi Nakher located in Oman’s deepest Canyon. From here proceed to Misfah a pretty mountain village with amazing stone houses. You will then head to Jebel Shams the highest peak in the Jebel Akhadar range passing through the farming village of Wadi Ghul.
Day 6 Today proceed to the Sinaw market which is a traditional and old market where one can view trade on goats, guns and sliver. From here continue to the Mudhaybi and the old village of Munzziff and Ibra. You will then drive out in to the Wahiba Sands desert for a two night stay a Desert Nights Camps with breakfast and dinner included. Enjoy some exciting dune bashing as well as marvel at the huge expanse of the desert or for the more thrill seeking there is an option for quad biking on the dunes or a camel ride. Evening are spent around the fire, star gazing.
Day 8 Start the day with a visit of a Bedouin Family to experience the traditional hospitality of these nomadic people. From here drive to Wadi Bani Khalid one of Oman’s most spectacular wadis with its deep blue pools of water and small pretty villages embedded in the mountains. After a dip in the wadi continue on to Jalan Bani Bu Ali where you will see the 200 year old mosque with 52 domes as well as the extensive ruins of an old fort. The day ends along the coast at Ras Al Jinz for a one night stay at Carpace with breakfast and dinner included. This evening you will walk down to the beach to observe sea turtles coming up onto the beaches to lay their eggs, and if you are lucky you may even see a newly hatched turtle valiantly making its way towards the ocean.
Day 9 En route back to the capital stop at a fishing village and an operational dhow factory in Sur where you will be able to see the craftsmanship involved in making these vessels. Other attraction include the Sanseela Fort, the ruins of Bibi Miriam’s Tomb, a stop at Fins beach for a quick swim and the Bimah Sinkhole a spectacular limestone crater with blue green water at the bottom. Finally you will be back in Muscat for a two night stay at The Chedi in a Serai room with breakfast included. The next day will be a tour of Muscat including the Grand Mosque, the Bait Al Zubair Museum for a history of the country and some of its different cultures, a visit to the popular fish market and finally tour of the magnificent Al Alam Palace the residence His Majesty Sultant Qaboos which is flanked by the 16th century Portuguese Forts Mirani and Jalali. Muttrah Suq is well worth a visit for some shopping.
Day 11 Transfer to the airport for your day flight back to London Heathrow.
