An 11-day tour that showcases the best of Brazil's cultural and natural highlights. Start your Brazil holiday in the iconic city of Rio de Janiero. With its dramatic setting of undulating mountains covered in lush greenery to the stark expanses of bare rock; this is perhaps one of the most spectacular backdrops in the world. Add in imposing Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado Mountain, conical Sugar Loaf Mountain and the famous Copacabana Beach for a magical start to your holiday. A short flight south is the magnificent Iguacu Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. With 275 separate falls over nearly 2 miles they showcase the meeting of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. The largest of the falls, the Devil's Throat is truly breathtaking. From the Atlantic forest at Iguacu, move onto the lush tropical rainforest of the Amazon. Stay 2-3 nights (subject to airline schedules) at an eco-lodge a short distance from Manaus where you will experience the diversity of the flora and fauna just outside your room. Finally, complete your Brazil holiday with a stay in the charming, historic city of Salvador. The centre, known as the Pelourinho, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, awash with colourful buildings and cobbled streets. Classic Brazil really does encompass all the must-do sites in this diverse country.
Day 1 Fly from the UK to Rio de Janeiro direct with British Airways. Upon arrival this evening, you will be transferred to your hotel, the Porto Bay Internacional on Copacabana Beach.
Day 2 Today on a private tour you will visit two of Rio de Janeiro's most iconic sights - Corcovado mountain; home to the statue of Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf mountain. Both provide unrivalled views out over the city's spectacular bays, islands, beaches and mountains. To ascend Corcovado mountain, embark the Swiss cogwheel train that climbs up from 15m asl to 670m asl, wending its way through the Tijuca National Forest below. Offering a bird's eye view, the cable car up to Sugar Loaf makes for an exciting journey, with such stunningly beautiful views it is no wonder the city is dubbed "cidade maravilhosa" (marvellous city).
Day 3 Today is at leisure. Spend the day as you choose – relax on the beaches, or arrange further sightseeing locally. Visit the botanical gardens, the historic area of Santa Teresa with its cobbled streets and try the local 'feijoada' dish!
Day 4 Transfer to the airport for the short flight to Iguacu Falls. Upon arrival visit the Brazilian side of the falls. A long paved walkway through lush forest offers stunning views of the Argentine side of the falls. Home to an array of wildlife, spot many species of tropical birds, coatis and colourful butterflies. It is no wonder the Iguacu Falls are considered one the world's greatest natural wonders with thundering cascades complemented by rainbows hanging in the clouds of spray and extensive flora and fauna within surrounding sub tropical forest. You will then be transferred to your hotel.
Day 5 Today on a half day private excursion, explore the Argentine side of the falls including the viewpoint for the impressive Devil’s Throat. Take in these majestic falls from a variety of vistas from the extensive walkways. We can also arrange a boat trip to the base of the falls - you will get wet!
Day 6 Transfer to the airport for an early flight via Sao Paulo or Brasilia (subject to flight schedules) to Manaus, the gateway to the Brazilian Amazon. Due to the flight schedule (subject to change), those travelling to Manaus must overnight in the city for 1 night before travelling into the jungle. Overnight at the lovely Villa Amazonia before heading off the next day.
Day 7 Stay for two nights at the Amazon Eco-Park, around one hour from the city on the banks of the Taruma River. Aside from being a comfortable lodge, the Amazon Eco-Park also operates as a scientific and educational establishment. Time here is spent enjoying the excursions provided by the lodge and exploring this unique ecosystem. Your package includes a visit to the famous "Meeting of the Waters". Other popular excursions include taking a tour at sunrise or sunset when the rainforest is particularly active and visiting a native village to learn about life in the Amazon rainforest. Discover small tributaries by dugout canoe and trek through the jungle with an expert naturalist guide.
Day 9 Depart from your Amazon Lodge for the airport and connect to your flight to Salvador on the coast. Spend two nights at Casa do Amarelindo located in the historic Pelourinho district of the city. Overlooking the All Saint's Bay, the city is one of Brazil's most exotic. Samba music fills the streets, a distinct mix of Latin and African cultures come together here and the Pelourinho is the place to be!
Day 10 Free time to explore this vibrant city. Most visitors will spend their time in the Pelourinho area which is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This was the area that the Portuguese built as a fortified city and displays some of the most important colonial architecture in the Americas. Once a centre of slave trade, the city offers a rich Afro-Brazilian feel as well as picturesque cobble stoned streets, impressive baroque churches and brightly coloured buildings.
Day 11 Transfer to the airport for your return overnight flight to the UK via Rio. Alternatively we can extend your trip by a few days on the beach. Praia do Forte, just a 1 hour 30 minutes drive from Salvador, provides the perfect place to relax. With an exciting choice of hotels and small boutique properties, discover this charming fishing village, relax on the beach or by the pool. Please ask your Rainbow Travel Specialist for more details.
