This comprehensive tour delves deep into the heart of Belize's historic and natural wonders combining mysterious Mayan sites shrouded by dense jungles, river trips, wildlife spotting and swimming or snorkelling the coral reefs in the blue Caribbean waters off the coast of this small but fascinating country.
The tour starts in the Cayo District where you can explore Mayan sites and cave systems. Continue to the remote Orange Walk area to discover the amazing site of Lamanai surrounded by thick forest and go on boat trips to spot many species of mammals and birds. Continue south to the cacao plantations of the Toledo district close to Punta Gorda, an intriguing mixture of Mayan, Garifuna and Mennonite communities and also home to the infamous site of Lubaantun, where the Crystal Skull was allegedly discovered. Finish at a beautiful beach retreat close to Placencia from where you can hope to spot a jaguar at Cockscomb Reserve or snorkel the reefs off the coast.
Day 1 Flight from the UK to Belize City via the USA, where on arrival you will be transferred directly to the beautiful Ka'ana Hotel, located near San Ignacio in the Cayo District. A luxury resort, Ka'ana has a strong emphasis on the environment and community to ensure guests have the best possible authentic stay in Belize.
Day 2 Full day to explore the Cayo area transferring first to the impressive Mayan ruins of Xunantunich for a guided tour of the site. Then continue to the traditional town of San Ignacio for a chance to wander around before returning to your hotel.
Day 3 Transfer through the scenic Mountain Pine Ridge National Park on your way to the famous Mayan site at Caracol which is the largest site in Belize. On your return visit the Rio Frio caves and pools for a refreshing swim before arriving back at Ka'ana.
Day 4 Transfer from San Ignacio towards Belize to transfer into the remote Orange Walk district to the Lamanai Outpost Lodge. Transfers are by land and boat to arrive at the lodge.
Day 5 Enjoy two full days of activities from the lodge which are included in the cost of your stay as are all meals and most drinks. Choose a trip from a selection of daily wildlife tours with the lodge's own guides including a trip to the remote jungle-shrouded archaeology site of Lamanai.
Day 7 Depart Lamanai to arrive in Belize City in time for a short scheduled flight down to the southern coastal town of Punta Gorda in Toledo district. You are certainly off the beaten track here as you discover the unspoilt beauty of this region with its strong Mayan culture. Transfer from the airstrip to your beautiful eco-lodge, Belcapmo.
Day 8 Relax at this wonderful lodge or enjoy the activities at the Belcampo Lodge. Alternatively take an optional trip to Lubaantun. Only a 30 minute drive from the lodge is the unique and mysterious Mayan site of Lubaantun. The construction here of vast stone structures was unique due to its individually carved and stacked stones and structures constructed without the use of mortar. There are also numerous ball courts, possibly making this site a former training centre for Mayan athletes. Another option is Blue Creek to learn about rainforest medicinal plants and the cave systems. Options include hiking, swimming in caves or learning to grind corn and make tortillas in a local home.
Day 10 Travel by short flight to the Placencia peninsula and your peaceful beachfront hotel, the stunning Turtle Inn for some relaxation by the beach.
Day 11 Three full days to explore this region or simply relax by the beach and the warm Caribbean sea. Take a snorkelling trip from the local dock by boat to the coral reef from one of the small offshore island atolls. Snorkel from the beach where you will see a variety of colourful tropical fish and coral formations.Perhaps take a guided tour of the Cockscomb Jaguar Reserve which includes some hiking in this beautiful tropical nature reserve and a chance to see the elusive jaguar if you are lucky.
Day 14 Take the short flight to Belize City and connect with your international departure to the UK.
