For a relaxed beach holiday away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you cannot beat this holiday. Combine exploring the history of the World Heritage city of Mexico City with wildlife spotting and relaxation of the beautiful coast of Baja California Sur.

During your time on the still fairly undiscovered coast, you can stroll along the soft sands and find undiscovered coves, hidden beaches and crystal clear lagoons.  There will be time for boat trips to Magdalena Bay and Isla Espitiru Santo Island where your English speaking guide will point out Grey Whales, dolphins, sea lions, manta rays, pelicans and many shore birds.

This private tour lasts 12 days and all itinerary items and excursions can be amended based on your preferences.

Itinerary

Day 1 Depart the UK for your direct flight to Mexico City. In Mexico City, you can explore the trendy Polanco quarter from your base, the Las Alcobas Boutique Hotel, as you ease into the Mexican way of life.

Day 2 Mexico City is sprawling and there is so much to see and do. The main square, or ‘the Zocalo’, is a fine place to start. From here you can visit the biggest church in Latin America, the Catedral Metropolitana and the Palacino National which hosts Diego Rivera’s murals depicting the history of Mexico. Later, browse the local handicraft market to pick up souvenirs and visit the archaeological site of Teotihuacan to wander amongst its temples, palaces and pyramids which were once sacred to the Aztecs.

Day 3 Fly from Mexico City to La Paz. Spend the afternoon wandering along the boardwalk or ‘malecon’, taking in the endless views across the ocean, people watching as you stroll. Soak up the atmosphere, in the late afternoon or early evening when there are fewer tourists.

Day 4 Visit a nearby beach such as Playa Balandra or Playa El Tecolote to really unwind. On Playa Tecolote find a private spot to lay down your towel on the seemingly endless expanse of soft white sand.

Day 5 Spend today on a boat ride to La Paz’s Espiritu Santo Island. Take a kayak over the shimmering turquoise waters, past volcanic cliffs toward a beautiful beach for lunch on the island of Los Islotes. Here, your English speaking guide will introduce you to a large sea lion colony, and you are free to swim with sea lion pups and snorkel with thousands of tropical fish in the warm tropical waters.

Day 6 After breakfast you will travel across most of the southern part of the Peninsula to reach the charming town of Loreto. Here, the lack of mass tourism is reflected in the town’s motto: “300 years old and still undiscovered”. Relax by the rooftop pool of the boutique Posada de la Flores hotel or take advantage of the hotels location in the central plaza. Wander to the quaint downtown area to explore shaded plazas and the boardwalk, the perfect place for a stroll along the waterfront under the Mexican sun.

Day 7 Spend today on a boat trip looking for Gray Whales at Bahia Magdalena. The serene waters of the Sea of Cortés and the lagoons on the Pacific side of Baja, host an incredible amount of marine species. Watching a whale glide silently below your boat is an experience that will stay with you forever. Travel from Loreto to Magdalena Bay which is one of the main three lagoons where the Gray Whales return every year to mate and calve.

Day 8 Embark on a search for the biggest animal on earth, keeping an eye out for the rich fauna the Loreto Bay has to offer. They are very few places in the world where Blue Whales give birth near the coast - the Loreto Bay National Park is one of these privileged places. Visit the Whale Triangle populated by Blue whales, Fin whales, Humpback whales, dolphins and sea lions. With some luck it is also possible to spot Orcas and Pilot Whales in February and March.

Day 9 In Loreto you can either spend the day relaxing on the beach, wandering around the quaint streets or on a boat trip whale watching. Otherwise, you may choose to take a day trip to the marine natural reserve of Coronado Island, where there is the chance to snorkel or scuba dive in the warm, emerald waters.

Day 10 Todos Santos has so far escaped the mass tourism of other towns along the coast, and the local, laid back atmosphere makes this the perfect place to unwind. Spend the evening wandering around cultural centre and the art galleries where locals sell their work. In February there is an art and music festival which brings a buzz to this small artistic town.

Day 11 In Todos Santos, you can relax at Guaycura Boutique Hotel's private and secluded Beach Club and Spa. Here, swim in the emerald ocean then return to your comfortable sun bed to unwind with a cocktail and the view across the Pacific Ocean.

Day 12 After a day spent either enjoying the beach or wandering through the colonial buildings of the town, relax with a drink and a view of the ocean as you sit under the stars at the rooftop tapas bar.

Day 13 Transfer to La Paz airport for your return flight to the UK via Mexico City.
