Explore the scenic wonders of Argentina and Uruguay on this spectacular 15-day private tour. There are so many highlights in this itinerary from the cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires to the beautiful Perito Moreno Glacier and spectacular Iguazu Falls . Continue into relatively unvisited Uruguay and the capital city of Montevideo where modern intertwines with the old before ending at a remote, windswept beach at Jose Ignacio.
Day 1 Depart the UK for your flight to Madrid and connect to the overnight service to Buenos Aires.
Day 2 On arrival you will be met and transferred to the to the luxurious Sofitel located in the upmarket area of Recoleta with its tree-lined streets and expensive shops. The area is most famous for the Recoleta Cemetry where Eva Peron is buried and the Basilica Nuestra Senora del Pilar, a beautiful colonial church.
Day 3 With your private guide explore the cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires. Visit some of the characterful neighbourhoods including the colourful district of La Boca with its quirky caminitos, upmarket Recoleta and trendy Palermo. You also visit the Plaza de Mayo flanked by the presidential palace (the pink palace). In the evening enjoy an evocative evening of tango with dinner at Esquina Carlos Gardel
Day 4 Free day in Buenos Aires. Explore the different areas of the city from the renovated dock area of Puerto Madero to the bohemian San Telmo with it's funky cafes and tango dancing in the street. Or visit some of the fantastic leather shops for gifts.
Day 5 Transfer to the airport for the flight south to El Calafate in the heart of Patagonia. Spend three nights at Esplendor El Calafate in a suite overlooking the lake, close to the town. Immerse yourself in the endless beauty of the steppe landscape and enjoy Argentine beef from the asado.
Day 6 Full day private tour to Perito Moreno glacier to experience first hand this awe inspiring natural wonder. Drive through a long expanse of lenga forest before catching a glimpse of bright white ice. The glacier is 4km long and in continuous process of renewal which great chunks crumbling and crashing into the lake.
Day 7 Free day to explore the town or take an optional excursion. Visit Upsala glacier or Estancia Cristina for a feel of the traditional bygone era. There are also a host of activities including horseback riding. fishing, trekking or four-wheel-drive tours of the region.
Day 8 Transfer to the airport for the flight to Igauzu via Buenos Aires. From barren, cold Patagonia to the heat of the jungle, Argentina is truly a country of contrasts. Sheraton Iguazu is based within the national park so if time allows try and catch the falls at sunset after the day trippers have left.
Day 9 With your private guide cross the border into Brazil for a half day visit. Experience the majestic 275 individual falls from a different angle. Rest of day at leisure to spend more time on the Argentine side and visit the famous Devil's Throat walkway.
Day 10 Fly from Iguazu to Montevideo via Buenos Aires and transfer to the Sofitel hotel in the upmarket neighbourhood of Carrasco. Located 14km from the old town this was once a breezy beach retreat for the smart set.
Day 11 Half day tour to explore the city. Visit Ciudad Vieja (the old city) which is seven blocks wide by thirteen blocks long and an eccentric mix of grand government and banking institution buildings. With its run-down colonial housing you could easily mistake it for Havana and was once the set of Miami Vice, the movie.
Day 12 Transfer by road to the coastal resort of Jose Ignacio, a tiny settlement ideal for rest and relaxation away from the buzzing atmosphere of Punta del Este. With only 12 suites, Playa Vik, is a contemporary retreat overlooking the ocean.
Day 13 Free days to relax, enjoy a host of local restaurants and explore this windswept corner of Uruguay.
Day 15 Transfer along the coast to Montevideo airport for your return flight via Madrid.
