Take a week out of ordinary life to do something extraordinary – climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the world’s tallest free-standing mountain, rising 3 miles straight up out of the surrounding game-filled plains.
Uhuru peak stands at 5895m (19,340ft), and its name is the Swahili word for freedom. Made up of three extinct volcanoes, Mount Kilimanjaro encapsulates a vast range of ecosystems, so that trekkers experience everything from tropical rainforest and savanna grasslands through to alpine woodland and moorland, culminating with snow fields and the glacial region at the summit.
A challenging but doable climb, this trek is attractive because it requires no technical experience and is therefore available to anyone with a reasonable fitness level, and it’s the ideal trek for those who are not confident in their ability to hike over steeper paths.
