One of the most impressive canyons on the planet, Colca Canyon is an excellent place to spot the rare Andean Condor, and a sighting of this majestic bird will be the highlight of any Peru trip.
Lake Titicaca & the Altiplano
We travel across the Andes to Lake Titicaca, passing jagged snow-capped peaks. We take a boat out to visit the Uros Indians who live on floating reed islands before continuing to Taquile island, exploring the pre-Inca ruins here. Then we drive across the high Altiplano, pausing at the impressive graves at Sillustani and the pre-Inca temple of Raqchi, to Cusco (3400m), the Inca 'Navel of the Universe'. There's also the chance to visit lively Pisac market, one of Latin America's most famous markets.
Machu Picchu - the Lost City
We travel by train to the amazing ruins of Machu Picchu, which hang on the clouds like an eagle's nest. There may be a chance to follow part of the Inca Trail here, and you'll have the opportunity to do some whitewater rafting through the Sacred Valley, where we spend the last nights of our trip relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere.
Explore the Amazon with a 3-night extension...
It is possible to extend your stay in Peru with a 3-night sojourn in a jungle lodge deep in Amazonia. Flying to Puerto Maldonado, you can explore the Amazon jungle by dugout canoe and also on foot for close-up views of exotic tropical flora. There's plenty of time to relax and soak up the atmosphere.
