Gems of Rajasthan
Our adventure starts 'head first' with the chance of a cycle rickshaw ride round the chaotic streets of Old Delhi's bazaar. We then enjoy more of a laid-back experience in two of Rajasthan's most appealing spots - the 'White City' of Udaipur, where a bicycle is great way to explore and the small town of Pushkar, a popular pilgrimage spot for Hindus where you can ride camels into the surrounding desert, stroll to hilltop temples or just while away some time in one of the lakeside cafes.
Pink City & the 'Taj'
Travelling alongside the locals by bus, we reach to Jaipur, Rajasthan's famous 'Pink City', where you can discover the unusual Observatory, graceful Palace of the Winds or perhaps browse through the exotic jewellery market. At the hilltop fortress of Amber which can be reached on an elephant, there are awesome views over the deserts beyond. In Agra, sunrise is the best time to visit the breathtakingly beautiful Taj Mahal and there's also time to explore the impressive Fort.
Ganges & Hooghly
An undoubted tour highlight is our unique 2-day sail boat trip on the Ganges that takes us to Varanasi. Drifting downstream on traditional craft offers the perfect point from which to observe life in rural India. We stop at small villages and historic sites and camp overnight on a river beach. Floating in to India's holiest city is a tranquil and deeply moving experience. Whilst here we recommend a sunrise boat ride past the colourful ghats where the throngs come to worship and bathe. We end our journey on the banks of another great river, Kolkata's Hooghly. The vibrant Bengali capital is more familiarly known as Calcutta; there's time here to wander in the flower market and observe local artisans at work at the clay modellers village.
