Krakow & the Tatras
Our adventure starts in the medieval jewel of Poland's Krakow, where you can also choose to head out of the city to Wielizcka's historic salt mine or emotive Auschwitz. We enjoy some gentle river rafting in the scenic Dunajec Gorge before crossing into Slovakia and the High Tatras mountains. From our base in Stary Smokovec we can enjoy some easy well-marked walks through silent valleys and past rugged cliffs and emerald lakes. Passing through the numerous small villages of Slovakia's rural heartlands we observe traditional lifestyles little changed by the hectic pace of the modern world.
Cities of Central Europe
Old World charm and beauty are the key notes for romantic Budapest. We explore both sides of the city in the company of our informative guide. We discover the compact city of Bratislava on foot and take the train to nearby Vienna for the day. There's the option to return by boat along the Danube. Our journey's end is in Prague, the Czech capital, regarded by many as the unspoilt jewel in Europe's historic crown. As well as visiting all the major sights of the Old Town and Hradcany (the Castle of the Bohemian Kings), we have time to simply soak up the atmosphere of a unique community where every street, ghetto, inn or theatre tells a story.
