Central Asia and the Caucasus have always been connected as trade and armies have passed along the fabled Silk Road and this trip mirrors that route. Connecting the great historic Ottoman capital of Istanbul with Tamerlane’s magnificent city of Samarkand, this trip is as much a journey through history as a journey through geography.
Along the way we can explore the mountains, cultures of Georgia and Azerbaijan. Home stays are the order of the day in Georgia, and the food and wine is as much part of the trip as the magnificent scenery and the churches.
Crossing the Caspian, we head into the deserts of Turkmenistan and then the historic lands of the central Silk Road down the Oxus Valley, visiting Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand.
