Ethiopia is not most people’s first choice in Africa but in many ways it should be; especially when you combine it with northern and central Kenya. For this trip has it all, trekking in the Simien Mountains, hidden gems such as the Blue Nile Falls, great history and culture as seen throughout Ethiopia and, of course, the wonderful wildlife of Kenya, as seen in Samburu and Nakuru National Parks.
The trip is split into two parts; the first being the northern Highlands and deserts of Ethiopia and the second, the Rift Valley of Southern Ethiopia and the deserts and savannah lands of Northern Kenya.
On the first we get a chance to take an amazing expedition by jeep out to the surreal landscapes of the Danakil Depression as well as exploring the great Christian churches and monasteries, such as Lalibela. Further south of Addis, we discover the hidden jewel of the UNESCO world heritage site of Harar, before descending down across the plains of East Africa to Nairobi.
