Skane province is often associated with endless open fields and wide, flat horizons. Though this image is true in some parts of Skane, particularly the south-east, the region as a whole has a much more diverse and varied landscape together with intriguing historic sites and charming cities. The cosmopolitan city of Malmo boasts interesting modern architecture and ancient medieval buildings whilst the old university town of Lund has a bohemian, laid-back eccentricity and the coastal medieval town of Ystad is one of the best-preserved cities in Skane.
Historic sites abound – impressive castles and manor houses, Viking monuments and fortresses. Foteviken Viking Museum is a fascinating working Viking-style village which is virtually self-sufficient. The diverse scenery on this trip encompasses pretty coastline, rolling meadows, lush apple orchards, protected swampland and rugged and dramatic cliffs - exploring by car gives you the time and opportunity to discover it all!
