North Island highlights include the spectacular Bay of Islands, an historic and incredibly picturesque area, where you can explore the villages of Russell and Kerikeri, visit the Treaty House at Waitangi or take a boat trip among the islands of the bay, where it is also possible to swim with dolphins.
The Coromandel Peninsula offers superb coastal walks for the energetic or beautiful beaches for some chill out time. Inland, Rotorua is New Zealand’s premier geothermal area and a centre for Maori culture which will be experienced first hand at a traditional Maori feast ‘hangi’ and concert. Stay in Wellington, New Zealand’s vibrant capital city, before taking the ferry across the Cook Strait and into Queen Charlotte Sound.
On the South Island explore the rugged West Coast, with its striking landscape features such as the fantastic blow holes and rock formations at Punakaiki and the Franz Josef glacier where optional activities include guided glacier walks and scenic flights. Discover the adventure capital Queenstown and scenic Fiordland, perhaps take an afternoon cruise on the spectacular Milford Sound. Travelling through the heart of Southland you reach the historic city of Dunedin, with its distinctly Scottish flavour, and magnificent Mt. Cook before winding up in Christchurch, considered by many to be the most ‘English’ of New Zealand’s cities.
