One of the earliest Moorish conquests and the second city of Al-Andalus, in the 15th century Seville later became Spain’s major city. Today Seville is the capital city of the south and remnants of its fascinating history are abundant. Highlights of the city include the cathedral, which was built on the Almohad mosque, and today is the largest cathedral in the world, and the AlcÁzar Palace, a large fortified complex residence to a number of Muslim and Christian rulers throughout the centuries.
