Located on the Amalfi Coast, in Campania, Positano sits on an enclave in the hills winding down to the coast. Its main attraction is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta that has a tiled dome and features a 13th century Byzantine icon of the black Madonna. After the Second World War, Positano became a well-known hideaway for artists and writers - many of them American, following John Steinbeck’s lead.
